Danvers Asylum D Block by Katherine Coe on Flickr.
The Fergus Falls town council have considered tearing down the beautiful majestic building of the Fergus Falls State Hospital. Please voice your concern on the Facebook dedication page to Fergus Falls: Friends of Kirkbride. Please help!

This is from the old Whitby Psych (Whitby Psychiatric Hospital, also known as Ontario Hospital for the Insane) and it is, hands down, the most terrifying and exciting place I’ve ever been. Open from 1916 to 1996, it was literally shut down and abandoned. Furniture, records, everything, were just left there which made it all the more creepy to walk through in the middle of the night.
There was the main hospital, and then there were “cottages” which is where long-term patients resided. Everything was connected through underground tunnels - which is also terrifying when you’re there with a bunch of friends late at night.
There was a morgue and you could literally pull out the slots from the wall and that was the scariest part for me. I didn’t touch them haha. The nursery was also terrifying, because there’s all of these characters - Winnie the Pooh, Sesame Street, etc - painted on the wall just looking at you, along with dolls and beds and just ugh.
It’s supposedly haunted, and I believe it. Guards were murdered there, patients committed suicide, and just natural deaths. When you take pictures at night, it’s swamped with orbs. Flashlights flicker on and off.
Unfortunately it’s all been torn down now. But what a cool place to have visited.

Walter Freeman (November 1895 - May 1972), a.k.a. The Lobotomist. Sliced up approximately 3500 brains in his time… His life isn’t a pretty story, but at least he looked rather handsome.

Back in late 2005, someone hooked up power to one outlet in the basement of Danvers State Hospital. 13 years after the building was abandoned, we brought some lights to the tunnels.
